SSA mum on staff demand

Management of the Sanitation Services Authority (SSA) is remaining tight-lipped about the request by cemetery staff to have Superintendent of Cemeteries Ricky Cummins reassigned.
When contacted yesterday Acting Deputy General Manager Janice Jones said she had no comment to make, but National Union of Public Workers (NUPW) representative Roslyn Smith said she understood that the SSA board had already met with Cummins, had also met with shop stewards and were scheduled to meet with gravediggers tomorrow.
Last week Tuesday close to 80 employees of the SSA gathered in solidarity with cemetery workers at Westbury Cemetery in a work stoppage, with several collection and dump trucks parked from early.
Police were also called to the cemetery after workers confronted two gravediggers who had not joined them in the stoppage but were waiting to cover prepared graves.
