Boyce: Flag traffic offenders

THERE MUST be a system to flag offenders, but private information about vehicle owners must still be safeguarded.
That is the view of Minister of Transport and Works John Boyce, who was responding to a member of the audience on the status of proposed amendments to the Road Traffic Act during a Democratic Labour Party lunch time lecture at its George Street headquarters yesterday.
The minister said the inability to flag offenders, whose licences had been withdrawn on a court order, made it difficult to police. He described the problem as “actual implementation challenges [that] are being grappled with”.
Boyce also said there were certain legitimate issues to be considered in sharing information. (JS)
