Mario Burke finished fourth in the men’s 100 metres at the Central American and Caribbean Games in Barranquilla, Colombia.
Burke clocked 10.17 to just miss a podium finish in the marquee event.
Jamaican Nesta Carter took gold in 10.07 seconds, Jason Rogers of St Kitts and Nevis silver in 10.15 and bronze went to Cejhae Greene of Antigua and Barbuda in 10.16.
This was on the second time of asking and the story could have been different.
Burke had an excellent start and was in medal contention in the first race.
Athletes were more than 30 metres down the track, already in the acceleration phase when the race was recalled.
Track officials checked the cameras, then more officials were called to confer before the card was showed to a stunned Burkheart Ellis, the other Barbadian in the race. He was in lane one.
Disappointment all over his face, Ellis watched the replay before walking off, hands on his head.
He took off his spikes and wished Burke well before making the lonely walk to the finish.
Anthonio Mascoll also finished fourth in the men’s 800 metres in1:47.3. Mexico’s Jesus Lopez Alvarez won gold in 1:45.2 (SAT)
