NHC first for cuts

Many of the National Housing Corporation’s (NHC) just over 300 temporary workers are out of work.
And in a swift response to yesterday’s sweeping job cuts, union leaders have warned of the possibility of legal and other protest action against the corporation and Government.
The strongest warning has come from general secretary of the Barbados Workers’ Union, Sir Roy Trotman, who accused the NHC of “reprehensible” behaviour and said Government and the NHC would hear from the union if any of its members were involved in the lay-offs.
But the position at other state agencies was looking grimmer yesterday, with Minister of Finance Chris Sinckler telling the Barbados Association of Insurance and Financial Advisors meeting at the Savannah Hotel about completion of a Government plan that would shut down some statutory corporations.
