A KEY PAST student of the Unique High School is spearheading a drive to put some much needed funds into the struggling institution.
Doreen Forde-Watson, who was the first child to enrol as a primary school student there in 1949, is putting her energies into rallying her fellow old scholars to set up a charitable fund to assist the Dayrells Road, Christ Church school which is in the midst of activities to mark 65 years of existence.
“I really and truly want to give back, because I have got a lot out of here. Who I am has a lot to do with coming to school here. . . . So I will be quite willing to give back,” Forde-Watson said.
She was among several past students who spent time at the school yesterday morning speaking to students and reminiscing about old times with principal Monica Crawford, who has been at the school for 55 years.
Forde-Watson taught French at Unique up until 1964. As a past student and teacher, she had these words of advice for the 70 students now enrolled.
“Take the opportunity you have now and take your education seriously, because it will pay [off] in the latter years,” she said.
