A WIND, gas and solar energy programme earmarked for Vaucluse, St Thomas, could involve investments of nearly $1 billion.
Minister of the Environment Dr Denis Lowe, who announced the energy projects yesterday, said Government was in “the final stages” of negotiations with a number of investors.
Plans for the area include a $680 million waste-to-energy plant; a leachate treatment plant costing about $31.9 million; a landfill gas-to-energy project to cost $9.4 million; a solar project costing $120; a wind-to-energy facility projected to cost $24 million; and an $11 million “ultra-modern” mechanical workshop.
Lowe calculated that eventually Barbados could be earning as much as $100 million annually from these projects.
