As the island prepares to welcome home Bajans from across the world this year, Prime Minister Mia Amor Mottley has urged those here to band together to make the island a safe haven and to help people resolve conflicts peacefully.
She was speaking as Barbados kicked off We Gatherin’ 2020 celebrations at a much cleaned-up River Bay, St Lucy, yesterday.
Gone was the stagnant build-up of hard-packed Sargassum seaweed, replaced by gentle waves which lapped at the inlet.
Throngs of people gathered on the gently rolling hills of the once hugely popular picnic spot, munching and imbibing good old Bajan fare and taking in the strains of music from the likes of gospel queen Sister Marshall to Quon, last year’s Junior Monarch who ditched social commentary to join Adrian Clarke, Blood and Ishiaka McNeil for the sweet sounds of spouge.
