ANDREW HOLNESS says he is mulling whether to offer himself as leader of the Jamaica Labour Party (JLP).
But the 39-year-old is non-committal as to whether he would attempt to replace party leader, Prime Minister Bruce Golding, who has indicated he would not be seeking re-election at the JLP annual conference in November.
“I have already declared that I would love to lead my country one day, and I am now contemplating whether this opportunity is the right time,” Holness told The Gleaner yesterday.
Prime Minister Bruce Golding on Sunday announced that he will not be seeking re-election at the party’s annual general conference in November and will step down as prime minister as soon as a new leader has been elected.
Since Golding’s announcement, speculation has been rife that Holness, as well as deputy leaders Audley Shaw and Dr Christopher Tufton, would be a serious contender to replace Golding. (Jamaica Gleaner)
