THE RISING LEVEL of gun violence in Barbados has forced the Government to take action.

Prime Minister Mia Amor Mottley yesterday disclosed that the National Security Council met on Tuesday, at which she said steps were taken to ensure that the necessary resources were made available for the crime fight as well as cooperation among agencies, to fully address the problem.

“We are conscious that Barbados can withstand many things, but it cannot withstand an explosion in gun violence . . . ,” the Prime Minister told the luncheon meeting of the Barbados Chamber of Commerce and Industry (BCCI) at the Lloyd Erskine Sandiford Centre.

She declined to go into details, but revealed that Attorney General Dale Marshall, Minister of Foreign Affairs Senator Jerome Walcott, Commissioner of Police Tyrone Griffith and Comptroller of Customs Annette Weekes all attended that meeting. (GC)
