BASSETERRE, St Kitts – The United States imported goods totaling US$42. 9 million from the sub-regional Organisation of Eastern Caribbean States (OECS) during the first six months of this year, according to foreign trade statistics issued by the US Census Bureau.
The figures show that St. Kitts and Nevis was the leading OECS exporter with the goods and services sent from the twin-island Federation accounting for US$25.7 million, while the combined exports of St. Lucia, Grenada, Antigua and Barbuda, Dominica and St. Vincent and the Grenadines amounted to US$17.2 million.
Last year, St. Kitts and Nevis led the OECS in exporting goods and services worth nearly US$50 million to the United States with the other OECS members accounting for US$49.7 million.
The figures also showed that Barbados exported US$15.6 million in goods and services to the United States for the first six months of this year, while last year the island received US$32.8 million for its exports.
The US Census Bureau did not say how much money the sub-region spent in importing goods and services from their North American neighbor. (CMC)
