FURTHER research will have to be done before the National Insurance Department makes any other attempt to change the way pensions are paid, Minister of Labour and Social Security Dr Esther Byer-Suckoo has announced.
For now, though, pensioners will continue to get their payments by cheque, unless they choose otherwise.
In a statement issued yesterday, Dr Byer-Suckoo sought to reassure pensioners that the original plan to make payment by bank lodgements mandatory would now not be enforced.
“It is now proposed that, before any changes are made, further analysis of the situation will be done, and any changes will be phased in, with the ultimate aim being not only the efficiency of the NIS, but the satisfaction of those whom that Department serves,” she said. (DP)
