The sitting of the Caribbean Court of Justice (CCJ) in Barbados was yesterday hailed as “a momentous occasion” in the legal history of Barbados and the Caribbean by prominent lawyer Sir Henry Forde, QC, while other representatives of the legal fraternity praised the creation of an appellate court for the region.
Speaking at the Supreme Court Complex following yesterday’s official opening ceremony of the CCJ’s Barbados sitting, Sir Henry said: “It is long overdue.
“I have a great degree of impatience with those countries that have not joined this court.
“I am absolutely frustrated about not only Trinidad – Trinidad is the seat of the court and it really is a lack of bona fides that Trinidad has not embraced the court as the ultimate court of appeal. But also it goes for Jamaica and for the Eastern Caribbean.”
