LEFT-HANDER Jonathan Carter moved towards a maiden first-class century to help put Barbados in the ascendancy over Jamaica on the second day of the WICB regional four-day final at Sabina Park on Saturday.
Carter hit an unbeaten 96 to lead Barbados’ strong response of 197 for three in reply to the hosts’ first innings total of 273 on a day cut short by a few afternoon and evening showers.
It was an impressive innings by Carter, who linked up with opener Rashidi Boucher to prop up Barbados’ effort after they were reduced to 30 for two in the morning session.
Boucher, playing in his first match of the season, made 52 – his maiden half-century at this level – and added 144 for the second wicket with Carter, whose highest previous first-class score is 99.
Opener Omar Phillips fell to the first ball of the innings from pacer Andrew Richardson, who also removed Kyle Hope for 13.
At the close, Dwayme Smith was unbeaten on 16.
Earlier, Barbados wasted no time in wrapping up Jamaica’s first innings after the defending champions resumed on 266 for eight.
