The fragrance of freshly cut flowers filled St John’s Parish Church yesterday.
To mark the church’s 175th anniversary, the Floral Arranging Committee yesterday hosted a flower festival featuring arrangements from members of the church and the Barbados Flower Circle under the theme Proclaiming The Glory Of God Through Art, Music And Flowers.
One special arrangement was placed on the grave of late Prime Minister David Thompson, which is in the churchyard.
The arrangement, in the shape of the map of Barbados, was made of mainly blue and yellow roses. The part of the map where St John is located was heart-shaped and made of red and white roses.
Grace Maughn, one of the those responsible for the piece, said it was to show the love the parish had for Thompson.
Here, the floral arrangement on the grave of Thompson gets the attention of (from left) Jennifer Harvey, Kathy Ann Nicholls and Grace Maughn.
