JUST FOR THIS CHRISTMAS, more food has been deposited in the bank that helps People Living With HIV and AIDS (PLWHA).
In an effort to ensure that PLWHA have the basic amenities this Christmas season, staff at the Registration Department have donated a number of items to the Food Bank.
In a presentation yesterday morning at the Registration Department in the Supreme Court Complex, Food Bank manager in the Ministry of Health’s HIV/AIDS Department, Stacia Whittaker, explained that the ministry provided food assistance for PLWHA who are in need.
Stressing that not everyone living with the virus may need the support, she said the ministry wanted to encourage healthy eating habits and, as a result, placed “special emphasis on food with nutritious content”.
The Food Bank caters to clients referred by health care providers because of social, economic and other challenges. These clients are also given information on how to get the most out of the food donated in a safe and nutritious manner.
Corporate Barbados is also encouraged to support the Food Bank by donating food, conducting a food drive or fund-raiser, making corporate donations, volunteering time or by joining the Adopt-A-Shelf Project. (BGIS)
