A leading regional academic is suggesting that Government will have a major problem on its hands in a few months – surviving “a severe global depression” that Barbados may only be able to fight with the help of its neighbours.
Political scientist Professor Neville Duncan has predicted that the economic situation will get much worse in the next six to nine months, with a slowdown in tourism, trade and other economic activity, and developed nations still struggling to keep their own economies afloat.
He said the ruling?Democratic Labour Party, along with the opposition Barbados Labour Party which will be offering itself as an alternative Government, will have the difficult task of finding solutions to this crisis.
“Things will begin to break awfully and we all in the Caribbean will be affected and we all have to remember that we are part of something called CARICOM which might be our only saviour if we are to keep our people from starving,” he warned in an interview with the SUNDAY SUN. (DP)
