Donville Inniss should know his fate by Thursday as both the prosecution and the defence in his money laundering trial closed their cases today.
The defence did not call any witnesses and Inniss did not take the stand.
There will be no sitting of the court tomorrow.
Judge Kiyo A. Matsumoto informed the jury that on Thursday morning, both the prosecution and defence would give their final addresses, after which she will give them directions on the law and they will then retire to deliberate.
The trial entered its second day this morning in the United States Eastern District Court in Brooklyn, New York.
Inniss, a former Minister of Commerce and Industry, is charged with attempting to launder US$36 000 through the United States financial system.
American prosecutors allege it was a bribe paid to him between 2015 and 2016 by the Insurance Corporation of Barbados Ltd (ICBL) in exchange for helping the company secure insurance contracts.
Some present and former ICBL executives testified yesterday before the 12-member jury as prosecutor Gerald Moody led the case before District Court judge Kiyo A. Matsumoto. (MB)
