St Michael North East avoided another extra time assignment at the fourth time of asking after Jadon McCollin’s first-half strike sealed a nail-biting victory over St Michael East in the final of the National Sports Council/Youth Development Programme Community Under-19 tournament on Sunday night at the Wildey Turf.

St Michael East enjoyed the majority of possession throughout the clash but a stoppage time save by North East’s, and the tournament’s best goalkeeper Shaquan Phillips, prevented the dreaded extra time period and dashed East’s hopes at the death.

Head coach Andre Gill heaped loads of praise on his charges at the full-time whistle in light of their hard-fought victory.

“Our hard work really paid off. We have been working a lot with the team and the unit we have is strong. Even the players on the bench can come on to make a difference, so I’m really happy for them and looking forward to Trinidad,” he admitted. (NM)
