The Harris Paints/Automotive Art Andrew Philips Memorial Stages Rally on March 22 at the Vaucluse Raceway is expected to set the tone for the motoring season.
The “single-venue” rally format event, which is also on the St Thomas We Gatherin calendar, was pioneered by Vaucluse Raceway Motor Sport Club last year.
Vaucluse Raceway’s Competition Secretary Greg Cozier said since the loss of the sugar industry cart roads and multi-surface rallying decades ago, special stage distances have been a constant challenge for rally organisers.
He noted that a day’s rallying in the United Kingdom or Europe would net at least 70 kilometres of stages, or up to 100-K, but one would be lucky to get half that in Barbados. (TT)
