Barbados may soon go the route of installing cameras at known illegal sites to help bring the scourge of indiscriminate dumping under control.

This revelation was made by Minister of the Environment and National Beautification Trevor Prescod, who called in the media on May 8 at President Kennedy Drive, St Michael, where a team from the Sanitation Service Authority (SSA) cleaned a dump site for the second time this week.

Describing the occurrence as “inhumane”, given the ongoing struggle with the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic, Prescod vowed his ministry would use all resources to catch people in the act, ensuring that they felt the full weight of the law.

In addition, the minister said he intended to review the legislation governing illegal dumping to determine if it needed more teeth in order to be effective. (CLM)
