Border openings will be the focus of discussion when Government meets with the Social Partners next week.

Prime Minister Mia Amor Mottley made this announcement when she gave a live address from Ilaro Court this evening.

Mottley said border closure and reopening are plagued with danger and risk but after consultation wth the Social Partnership, she will act decisively on reopening of borders which were closed as a response to the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic.

“The reality is that much is happening around us, but we know oh so well in Barbados that both scenarios are plagued with dangers and a measure of risk,” said Mottley.

“We die if we don’t and we also die if we do,” she said.

Mottley said she intends, after the widest possible consultations next week, to lead decisively on the matter. She said the Government reserves the right to act.

The decison to discuss borders comes as Government has, in stages, lifted measures instituted to curb COVID-19. Mottley also outlined further easing of restrictions from Monday. (KG)
