Government’s Adopt a Family Programme has already paid out approximately $4.2 million to 2 859 families.
Permanent Secretary in the Prime Minister’s Office, Alies Jordan, said about $2.1 million had been received from 546 donations, including from the United States of America, while Government had contributed around $2.9 million.
Jordan continued: “The programme, which was originally intended to provide assistance to 1 500 of the most vulnerable families for the three-month period of April to June 2020, had to be extended once applications were submitted and the true demand for assistance was recognised.
“Funds are provided to the families by an upload to bank issued debit cards, and to date 2 859 cards have been issued. It is expected that the programme will continue, and additional cards will also be issued, since it is unlikely that many of those being assisted, especially in the tourism sector, will return to work in the next few months, and as the present situation continues others will need assistance.”
The Permanent Secretary thanked all persons who contributed to the initiative to assist families who have been impacted negatively because of the COVID-19 pandemic.
“It is evident that the value of the programme was recognised as donations from $15 and up have been received,” she explained.
Donations may be made to account number 1001193982, at CIBC FirstCaribbean International Bank, Broad Street Branch, under the title Ministry of Finance Adopt a Family. Deposits should be made directly to the account, and an email sent to [email protected], informing of the deposit.
