The tropical storm warning for Barbados has been discontinued. Additionally, the small craft warning has been downgraded to a small craft advisory, while the high surf advisory has been discontinued.
Barbados Meteorological Services (BMS) said in a media statement that at 8 p.m. today, Tropical Storm Gonzalo was located near 10.0N 56.3W or about 310 miles (490 km) south east of Barbados.
Maximum sustained winds are near 40 mph (65 km/h). Storm-force winds extend outward only to 25 miles (35 km) from the centre. The system is moving westwards or 270 degrees at 18 mph (30 km/h). Minimum central pressure is 1 008 MB (29.77 inches).
Tropical Storm Gonzalo continues on its present westward track and the threat of storm-force winds to Barbados has significantly diminished. Barbados Meteorological Services said this is the final advisory on Gonzalo.
A small craft advisory is issued when sustained winds of 20 to 25 knots and/or sea swells of 2.5 – 3.0 metres (8 to 10 feet) are forecast to affect the marine area within the next 36 hours.
Significant wave height magnitudes are expected: Moderate to rough in open water with swells ranging from 2.5 to 3.0 metres, particularly along the eastern and south eastern coastal zones from around Saturday afternoon.
Small craft operators and sea bathers should stay out of the water. Larger vessels should avoid these waters if possible. (PR)
