Social workers attached to the Child Care Board (CCB) staged a sick-out yesterday, but management says it was not aware of such action.

Chairman Catherine Jordan told the Weekend Nation yesterday afternoon that she was at the Cheapside, St Michael offices of the CCB and there was “nothing amiss”. catherine-jordan

“I am here at the CCB and I don’t see any industrial action. There are people on vacation; there are people on sick leave. As far as I know, there is no industrial action here,” she said, adding “maybe one or two people called in sick, but there is no large number of anything happening here”.

However, a source involved in the situation said none of the social workers turned up for work yesterday, pointing out that they were protesting the acute shortage of staff, being overworked and pressured, and the attitude of management towards the situation. (MB)
