Water relief on the way for St John

If all goes well, the people of St John and St Joseph will have relief from their water woes by next year.

Speaking during a tour of the Vineyard Water Augmentation Project yesterday Minister of Water Resources Ian Gooding-Edghill said he hoped the new mains would be in place within a few months.

“The challenge is we are working with contractors. We commenced the project because we had no choice. As soon as we got the funding we commenced the project. But the issue for us is, it is the rainy season, so we have a double challenge. We are working around the clock with our contractors and with the amount of work we’ve done, I anticipate [completion of the mains] within the shortest possible period.

“One thing I’m certain of is we want to get this completed in the shortest possible time, maybe within four to five months, depending on weather conditions. We will keep the residents of St John and St Joseph updated and at a later date, we will go back to them and have further dialogue,” he said. (CA)
