The Family-Faith-Freedom of Barbados is appealing to Government not to legalise same-sex unions.

Yesterday, following a protest in Holetown, St James, chairman of the group, Reverend Paul Leacock, told the media that all Christians, regardless of their denomination, had to take a stand against the recognition of such unions because doing so could have a detrimental effect on society.

“The purpose of this march, and the others that will follow is to demonstrate clearly the disagreement of the church and [to] request that Government reconsider and rescind its decision to institutionalise same-sex unions in Barbados as per the Throne Speech that was recently issued,” he said.

“We are clear that such a decision on those kinds of policies would have a detrimental and deleterious effect on our nation. We know from studying other places where such policies have been implemented that it has led to significant sociological dislocations and problems.” (SB)
