This week’s outbreak of COVID-19 on a cruise liner home porting in Barbados is not likely to have any adverse impact on the country’s image as a safe haven from the pandemic.
So said Minister of Tourism and International Transport, Senator Lisa Cummins, who was responding a day after the SeaDream 1 was forced to return here after five positive cases were reportedly discovered on the vessel carrying 53 passengers and 66 crew members on a seven-day cruise.
It was the first cruise ship to sail from Barbados since the stoppage caused by the COVID-19 pandemic.
Cummins, addressing a virtual conference held by the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Barbados, said these cases could not be counted as part of Barbados’ statistics and therefore should not reflect negatively on the island’s stellar management of the virus. (CLM)
