THE SOUND of a car crashing into his home jumped Pablo Gaskin straight out of bed around noon yesterday.

The youth was resting at home in Hillside Road, Gall Hill, Christ Church, after work when the freak accident occurred.

“I was upstairs in my bed, not too long home from work, when I heard this commotion – it was so loud it jump me,” he said.

When Gaskin went downstairs, he saw an overturned car on top of another car next door with the fencing, front steps, front door and part of the wall of his home either damaged or destroyed. The car had run through the front yard of his home and ended up next door.

The house belongs to Gaskin’s father Lance Nurse, who was also home and went outside to investigate. He said he spoke to the driver, who did not stay.

“A youngster, maybe in his 20s, was in the car trying to crawl out. I asked him if he was all right and he said he didn’t know. I then asked him if anyone else was in the car and he said no. Then he disappeared from the scene,” he said.

Nurse also suffered another loss. He repairs washing machines and had one in his front yard ready to be delivered, but it was destroyed in the crash.

“The owner was supposed to come for that machine today, a $1 500 washing machine. I called her and she is so upset; I have to see if or how I will have to compensate her,” he said.

Despite the inconveniences, Nurse said he was still glad no one was seriously hurt. “Sometimes I fix machines right here so I’m glad I wasn’t outside when this happened. I could have been killed.” (CA)
