VETERAN TRADE UNIONIST O’Brien Trotman says despite the current wave of unrest, the labour relations climate in Barbados is much more stable than when he was one of the leaders.
Trotman joined the then Barbados Civil Service Association in 1969 and served until 1976.
He maintained his relationship with the trade union movement though he later became a Parliamentary Secretary and subsequently a Minister in the Barbados Labour Party administration.
He was awarded the Companion of Honour in this year’s Independence Honours for his service in politics and contribution to the trade union movement.
Responding to questions about recent protests over severance payment and other labour-related grievances, he said the “agitation” among sectors of the work force, could be expected because of the displacement caused by the COVID-19 pandemic. (GC)
