THE ATHLETICS ASSOCIATION of Barbados (AAB) has been forced to postpone the start of the local track and field season.
Originally, the AAB was planning to stage both the New Year’s Classic and January Classic on January 16 and 24 respectively, but the meets are now subject to change following tighter COVID-19 restrictions.
On New Year’s Day, Prime Minister Mia Mottley announced a 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. curfew up until January 14 while on Saturday evening, Attorney General Dale Marshall disclosed that a ban on recreational or competitive sports along with social events, parties and face-to-face religious services is now in effect.
It came following a massive spike in COVID-19 cases with numbers reaching 194 in 48 hours.
