Four employees of the Barbados Port Inc. (BPI) tested positive for the COVID-19 virus and the contact tracing exercise is now underway.
In a media release Wednesday, management says they are operating under the guidelines of the Ministry of Health and Wellness and once the primary contacts are identified, they will be required to present to health authorities for testing.
“We have taken immediate steps to close and sanitise the areas where these individuals were assigned and will continue our rigorous daily cleaning and sanitisation in accordance with recommended guidelines, to minimise the risk of exposure to the virus,” the release said.
Management of BPI also engaged the workers’ representatives on this latest development.
Operations at the Port of Bridgetown, currently focused on the delivery of essential and emergency cargo during this Government-mandated national pause, are not expected to be disrupted.
