Plea for traffic ease on Highway 1

Excessive vehicular traffic is hampering the Highway 1 rehabilitation project.

Neil Weekes, general manager of C.O. Williams Construction, one of five contractors attached to the project, is asking motorists who do not need to travel along Highway 1 to desist from doing so.

“Given the amount of traffic that still goes through [Highway 1], even with the curfew, it cannot just be people who live and work on the route; it’s just people who refuse to go around. That is an unfortunate reality; people just don’t intend to use alternative routes because this is the one they know and they will complain when they have to wait.

“I am asking the travelling public, if they don’t have to use Highway 1, then please go around. It will be a lot easier for us to work and for those who need to be there so they don’t have to wait as long. Last Thursday, traffic was so bad, my men couldn’t work at all,” he said. (CA)
