Worry over opening partnership

West Indies chief selector Roger Harper said one of the areas of concern for the selection panel coming out of the international home series against Sri Lanka in Antigua was the lack of a stable opening partnership in the Test team.

Harper gave a passing grade for the Windies overall performance during the series of Twenty20 internationals, One-Day Internationals and Tests, but said the Test opening partnership continues to be a problem.

Senior opener and West Indies captain Kraigg Brathwaite marked his return to top form with scores of 126 and 85 in the second Test.

But left-handed opening partner John Campbell had scores of 42, 11, 5 and 10 in the two Tests, and the Sri Lankan pacers exploited his apparent lack of awareness of the off-stump line, having him caught behind in all four innings of the series. (AR)
