From as early as 7 a.m. today, workers at various businesses in The City participated in cleaning initiatives to prepare the work environment for when Government gives the go-ahead to resume commercial activity.
Due to the ash fall caused by the explosive eruption of the La Soufrière Volcano in St Vincent, Government had paused commercial activity on Monday.
Today, only bakeries, pharmacies, supermarkets, village shops and gas stations were allowed to open. Essestial workers were permitted to carry on their duties as usual.
A Nation News team spoke to some people involved in the clean-up efforts. They said it was better to start preparing now for the resumption of regular business activity.
Workers cleaned gutterings, removed mucky ash fall from roofs, washed down buildings and cleaned the entrances.
Officials said it is best to clean the volcanic ash before there is a build-up.
La Soufriere Volcano began erupting explosively last Friday and Barbados has been heavily affected by ash plumes since then. (SB)
