It was not only protesters in St Joseph who were crying out for water yesterday.

In Redmans Village, St Thomas, long-time resident Margarita Smith said while the volcanic ash had made a bad situation worse, they had been suffering way before La Soufriere sent ash spewing Barbados’ way two Fridays ago.

“We had water issues for the longest while and the place really stink. When the water vat comes out, it does not come through here and when you go to the tank, sometimes it is dry,” said the pensioner, who lives in a rocky cul-de-sac.

“I don’t know the last day I had a shower standing up. I have to bathe like the old people. And even before the volcano, we were suffering bad and the bills still coming in high. Every bill that coming in mark ‘due for disconnection’ so I don’t understand,” Smith said. (TG)
