Roston Chase took three vital wickets in one over with his off-spin to lead his Saint Lucia Kings to a sensational upset over Trinbago Knight Riders (TKR) in the latest round of the Republic Bank Caribbean Premier League (CPL) on Wednesday night. Chase turned the contest on its head in the eighth over with the wickets of Sunil Narine (25), and then Matthew Breetzke and Nicholas Pooran for “ducks”. TKR slipped from 70 without loss to 70 for three. This amazing passage of play silenced the colorful and noisy crowd at Queen’s Park Oval.
Chase ended with the impressive figures of 4-0-24-3 – as the home team was restricted to 175-6 off their 20 overs to lose by a significant margin of 36 runs. This was in reply 211-4 off 20 overs which the Kings rattled up after being asked to bat first. Tim Siefeert led the batting charge with a sizzling century as the Kings posted the highest score of the season so far. The opener and former TKR player made 105 not out off 61 balls with eight boundaries and five sixes.
The result was the fourth win for the Kings and took them to joint top of the table alongside Antigua and Barbuda Falcons with eight points from seven matches. Meanwhile, TKR suffered their third defeat in four matches and are sixth in the seven-table table with just two points from four matches.
TKR will be back in action on Friday night when they have a blockbuster encounter against Barbados Tridents at the Queen’s Park Oval at 8 p.m.
