Former Government Minister Hamilton Lashley and attorney Lalu Hanuman have condemned the manner in which the Ministry of Transport, Works and Water Resources cleared a watercourse behind its Pine, St Michael headquarters that led to the bulldozing of many fruit trees.
This is despite the ministry holding firm that it did nothing wrong.
Lashley, who once represented the St Michael South East constituency in which the watercourse is located, told the DAILY NATION yesterday the ministry should have given notice before destroying the trees.
“I was absolutely surprised when I first heard about the destruction of the trees around the back of St Barnabas, adjacent to the Ministry of Transport and Works (MTW) where the Rastafarians commute. It was unceremoniously done,” he said. (SB)
