Barbados Defence Force (BDF) Chief of Staff Colonel Glyne Grannum says the army is renewing its commitment to being a symbol of excellence and to safeguard the lives of Barbadians.

Speaking at a special service at St Matthias’ Anglican Church yesterday to commemorate the BDF’s 42nd anniversary, he said that despite the challenges they faced, especially during the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, the spirit of the troops was undefeated.

“The purpose of this service is to reflect, to recalibrate, to give thanks and recognise that through all the changing scenes of the past 42 years, and the last two of a global pandemic, that our anchor shall hold steadfast,” he said. “The sanctuary of the BDF, the soul, the spirit, [is] undefeated, tested, tried, challenged, worn, weary but endures to the end [and] stretches across the 166 miles [of Barbados], our beautiful ocean and beyond, thanks to the Internet.

“We shall remain steadfast in the service of Barbados to execute tasks in accordance with our core values, code of conduct, principles, the rule of law and with a faith that remains steadfast . . . to continue the good work of our ancestors,” Grannum added.
