Kingston – Pakistan, sent into bat, were 145 for three in their first innings at tea on the first day of the second Test against West Indies on Friday in Jamaica.
The Windies endured a fruitless toil between lunch and tea, and Pakistani captain Babar Azam, not out 65, and left-hander Fawad Alam, not out 67, played fluently in an unbroken stand of 143 for the fourth wicket.
The Sabina Park pitch gave little assistance to the Caribbean side’s bowlers during the session and the two Pakistan batsmen played strokes all around the wicket to stabilise their side, after the visitors stumbled to two runs for three wickets in the first half-hour of the day.
Babar cut pacer Kemar Roach through backward point for his ninth four to reach his 50 from 96 balls in the first half-hour after lunch and Fawad pulled a short ball from Alzarri Joseph through mid-wicket for his eighth boundary to reach his 50 from 101 balls a little before the drinks break.
The hosts lead the two-match series 1-0, after a one-wicket victory inside four days in the first Test that ended last Sunday at the same venue.
Summarised scores:
Pakistan 145 for three (Fawad Alam 67 not out, Babar Azam 65 not out; Kemar Roach 2-38) vs West Indies.
