Estwick: Names won’t win games

Assistant coach Roddy Estwick said West Indies must not rely on “big names” to retain their ICC Twenty20 World Cup title.

Estwick said it will take a collaborative effort, instead of individual brilliance for the Windies to be crowned kings in the shortest format of the sport at the global showpiece to be staged from October 17 to November 14 in the United Arab Emirates and Oman.

“I think we have to represent well,” Estwick told NATIONSPORT yesterday. “Names don’t win competitions, teams win competitions. We have got to gel as a team.

“We’ve had a number of Twenty20 games over the last six months, so the key thing is how well we gel and understand our roles and how we can go out there and execute to the best of our abilities.” (AGB)
