Member of Parliament for St Philip West, John King, today confirmed he would not be returning as the Barbados Labour Party candidate when elections are called.

He made the announcement while addressing the branch on Sunday evening at Gordon Walters Primary School in St Patrick’s, Christ Church.

King said he came to the decision of his own volition and was constrained by politics from pursuing his plans and goals.

This put an end to the rumours circulating that he would be replaced.

Nation News reached out to King on Saturday and he refused to comment when asked about his future. He did say there would be no major announcements, “just the usual branch meeting” in spite of Prime Minister Mia Mottley signaling her intention to attend. She also addressed the gathering.

King, who is currently Minister in the Prime Minister’s Office with responsibility for Culture, won the seat as a first-time candidate in 2018, defeating incumbent Dr David Estwick. (Nation News)
