Maritime push on

Minister of Maritime Affairs and the Blue Economy Kirk Humphrey is reaffirming Government’s commitment to building out the maritime sector.

Yesterday during a ceremony at the Bay Street Esplanade in St Michael to kick off a commemorative flotilla in the build-up to Barbados’ transition to a republic, he highlighted some of Government’s initiatives aimed at developing the industry.

“It is important that we now treat the ocean and to give it its due – not only because we have a ministry responsible for it, but because all that we are doing now is seeking to preserve this very beautiful, almost picturesque, space that you are looking at behind me.”

He said there were three main ways Government had planned to advance the sector.
