All valued by God, says Rogers

Every Barbadian is valued by God and He is not only accessible to certain kinds of people, says Anglican priest Senator Dr John Rogers.

He emphasised this yesterday while delivering the sermon at the National Service of Thanksgiving held at the Gymnasium of the Garfield Sobers Sports Complex in Wildey, St Michael. The theme, Fortifying Foundation, Overcoming Adversity, Pursuing Destiny, spoke of Barbados’ celebration of 55 years of Independence which occurs tomorrow.

The more than two-hour multifaith service was attended by Governor General and President-elect Dame Sandra Mason, Prime Minister Mia Amor Mottley, Chief Justice Sir Patterson Cheltenham, Opposition Leader Bishop Joseph Atherley and other dignitaries.

Rogers, who also sits on the Republican Status Transition Advisory Committee, recently responded to criticisms from sections of the Christian community who have strenuously objected to the word “Creator” being used in the Charter Of Barbados instead of “God”. The Charter was passed in both Houses of Parliament last week, ahead of Barbados’ transition to a republic from tonight. (TG)
