Political scientist Peter Wickham has described the suggestion by Prime Minister Freundel Stuart to Barbadians that if money is sharing around they should get some, as “inappropriate and offensive”.
He said it was particularly so against the background that it was the Prime Minister himself who at the end of the last general election said he was determined to investigate the reports of vote buying.
“Here we are five months later and we have heard precious little from him on the issue, no initiatives, no investigations, no concrete evidence based on what he said in the last election and now he is saying to the same people of Barbados ‘if someone offers you money this time around just take it’,” he said.
Wickham added: “I find that offensive, but it is no more offensive than all of the other behaviours that have been associated with the behaviour of the Prime Minister in recent times that have been causing some concern.”
Stuart made the comment last Sunday at the opening of the constituencyoffice of St Peter candidate Dave “Chief” Cumberbatch. (CM)
