A pathologist told the No. 2 Supreme Court she fished out 52 shotgun pellets from Jason Husbands’ body, which had between 74 to 78 penetrating wounds.
Dr Corinthia Dupuis said many of the wounds were overlapping so it was difficult to determine the exact number.
The pathologist, one of eight witnesses to testify yesterday, said the wounds penetrated through to the pericardium (the membrane surrounding the heart), the diaphragm, his liver, the mid and lower lobes of the right lung, the tip of the left lung and there were multiple fractures to ribs eight, nine, ten, 11 and 12.
In addition, said Dr Dupuis, multiple shotgun pellets were removed from the right and left ventricles of the heart; the liver, the stomach, the right kidney the diaphragm, the lungs and the right atrium of the heart.
“Vital internal organs were injured,” she said.
She diagnosed death as a result of haemorhagic and cardiogenic shock.
“He would have lost a large volume of blood in a short space of time,” she said, adding the injuries appeared to be from a shotgun. The pathologist was not cross-examined. (HLE)
