Ace Barbadian trainer Saffie Joseph came up short in the prestigious Kentucky Derby at Churchill Downs last night, with his entry, White Abarrio, failing to make the top three.

White Abarrio, ridden by Tyler Gaffalione, never made a serious challenge in the 148th Kentucky Derby and finished 16th in the 20-horse field.

In one of the most unbelievable races in Kentucky Derby history, Rich Strike, the longest odds on the board, ran down favourite Epicenter and Zandon in the deep stretch to win at 80-1 odds.

Rich Strike was lucky to even be in the race. He got in Friday morning when Ethereal Road scratched out. Rich Strike was the first also eligible. (Los Angeles Times/MK)
