A small craft advisory issued for Barbados for above normal swell heights has been extended until 6 a.m. on Wednesday.

A small craft advisory is issued when sustained winds of 20 to 25 knots and/or sea swells of 2.5 to 3.0 metres (8 to 10 feet) are affecting or forecast to affect the marine area within the next 36 hours.

High wind speeds across the central Atlantic are expected to cause a deterioration in sea conditions, particularly across the eastern coast of Barbados from Monday through Wednesday, says the Barbados Meteorological Services.

Swell height are expected to be moderate to rough in open water with, ranging from two to three metres (7 to 10 ft).

All marine craft operators and beachgoers are advised to be aware of the possibility of large open water swells along the coast and near shore of this zone which can be hazardous. (PR/SAT)
