Saharan dust affecting Barbados

A significant Saharan dust outbreak is affecting Barbados and the marine area overnight, and will continue throughout Sunday, December 24.

As a result, a dust haze advisory is in effect for the island from 6 p.m. today until 6 p.m. Sunday.

A dust haze advisory is issued when dust haze is already affecting the country or is forecast to reduce visibility to between 5km to 10km within 36 hours.

Following this outbreak, hazy conditions will remain across the island in varying lower concentrations throughout the rest of the week.

People with respiratory issues or allergies should travel with, or have close at hand, all prescribed relevant medications in case of an emergency.

Marine users should stay close to shore, particularly if GPS is not in use on vessel, and closely monitor the forecast for critical updates. (PR/SAT)
