Missteps by BWU

A “troubling lack of appreciation for the scope and intent” of the Employment Rights Act.

That, said the Employment Rights Tribunal, was what representatives of the Barbados Workers’ Union (BWU) displayed as it fought the unfair dismissal claim brought by former employee of G4S Secure Solutions, Nicole Layne.

In fact, the tribunal found that Layne relied on the trade union “to her detriment”.

Efforts to reach a representative of the BWU for a response were unsuccessful, while National Union of Public Workers president Akanni McDowall said he could not comment on the matter since he did not have sufficient information on the case. (HLE)
