Red House’s athletes blazed the Ryan Brathwaite Track at the Usain Bolt Sports Complex yesterday to run away with the title for the sixth straight year at West Terrace’s Primary School Sports.
Outstanding performances from Jordan Blackman, Tashawn Nurse, Diamond Lashley and Zariah Browne helped power Red to 524 points.
They narrowly staved off a challenge from the Green Gladiators, who were second on 512 points. Blue (444.5) and Purple (306.5) were third and fourth respectively.
Blackman swept the Under-9 Boys’ 80, 100 and 150 metre races to collect 21 points, while house mate Aren Waterman gained 13.
Nurse won the Under-13 Boys’ 200 in 28.50 seconds and long jump with a leap of 4.17 metres. He was also second in the 100, earning 18 points.
Green’s Azahri Dallaway triumphed in the 400 (1:09.28) and 800 (2:49.22 minutes) and was second in the long jump and third in the 200 for 20 points.
But he was unable to catch Nurse in the day’s final event – the Boys’ Medley relay – as Red won to clinch the title by 12 points.
Lashley took the Under-13 Girls’ 100 metres in 13.62 seconds and was second in the 200, which was won by Blue’s Dicoreya Collymore in 31.73 seconds.
Outstanding
Collymore, the 11-year-old daughter of former Barbados and West Indies fast bowler Corey Collymore, had an outstanding day. She also won the 400 (1:16.11 minutes) and 600 (2:08.47 minutes) to earn 21 points and anchored Blue’s Girls’ medley relay quartet to victory.
Green’s Jamaiah Williams did the sprint double among the Under-9 Girls with wins in the 80 and 100, while Red’s Zariah Browne clinched the long jump, was second in the 80 and 150 metres, and third in the 100 to earn 17 points.
Purple House had something to cheer about in the Under-11 division, with Joshua Moore wnning the 100 and 200 metres and long jump and Janea Joe winning the girls’ 100 and 200.
